Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons
A nationwide organization emphasizing boating safety, power and sail navigation and offering accredited boating courses. Since 1938, the volunteer trainers of Canada's largest association of boating enthusiasts have offered safe boating courses across Canada. Successful completion of the qualifying examinations for Boat Pro and the Boating Course lead to particular membership categories. Each category ensures special membership benefits.
The Kelowna Squadron
One of over 200 Squadrons across Canada, the Kelowna Squadron received its charter in 1963. It continues to be a very active organization with over 200 members locally. Several courses are offered each year, and are taught by volunteer instructors, many of whom have extensive experience in coastal navigation and offshore cruising.
The Canadian Safe Boating Council provides the Following Statistic:
Be Prepared- Mechanical reakdowns account for approximately 50% of the calls for help. Most of these embarrassing incidents are preventable by ensuring your vessel is serviceable and you have sufficient fuel for the intended voyage. And part of being prepared is also making sure that the weather and water conditions are suitable for your day out on the water.
